Vs: Essex Seconds
Middlesex Seconds tied their last match in the Second XI Trophy with Essex at Shenley on Thursday July 14th 2005, however Essex won the match as they had lost fewer wickets.
Middlesex won the toss and batted first. They had a good start despite losing Ben Scott in the 2nd when with the score on 93 - 3 in the18th Jamie Dalrymple was run out by Nick Compton for 55. Then had a further setback when David Nash had to retire with a groin strain at 110-3 in the 22nd, from here they recovered to 231-6 in the 46th mainly due to 46 from Nick Compton and 35 from Chris Peploe. After this they collapsed to 253 all out in the 50th as Ryan ten Doeschate took 3-43.
Essex also had good start despite losing Varun Chopra in 3rd to reach 75-3 in the 19th when Mark Pettini went for 32. At this point Tim Philips was joined by Ryan ten Doeschate and these two the score to 178- 4 in the 41st with the help of some dropped catches when Philips went for 56. When Justin Bishop went in 47th at 220-5 33 was required 20 balls this came down to 11 from the last over and six from the last ball when Nick Prowting hit Chris Wright for 6 to tie the match which meant Essex had won the match as they had lost fewer wickets. Ryan ten Doeschate finished in 85 not out and Paul Hutchison took 3-53.
Thus Middlesex, had lost six of their eight matches in the group mainly due having a fairly young side particularly in the bowling department.
