Middlesex completed their third Frizzell County Championship win of the season with a tense two wicket win against Hampshire at Southgate.
Needing a further 108 runs for victory with six wickets intact, night watchman Alan Richardson hit two fours before he was caught at short leg off Udal for 16 (off 43 balls).
Disaster struck in the following over, when Ed Joyce was needlessly run out attempting a quick single having made 35 (off 66 balls). Paul Weekes joined Jamie Dalrymple at the wicket, and hit the first ball he faced to the boundary off Shane Warne’s bowling.
These two batted sensibly against spin from both ends, the odd ball turning sharply. They took the Middlesex total to 255 before Dalrymple was seventh out, caught by Warne off Greg Lamb for 24.
Ben Scott scored 14 before he fell to Warne, caught at mid-off with only six runs required. Chris Peploe kept one end up whilst Weekes hit Warne for two and then a four to complete the Middlesex win, five minutes before lunch.
Paul Weekes was 39 not out, scored off 63 balls with 5 fours. Udal took 3-60 in 21 overs for Hampshire, and Shane Warne finished with 2-108 off 29.4 overs.
It was a very good come back by Middlesex who trailed Hampshire by 83 runs on first innings.
