Middlesex lose to Durham by 135 runs

Vs: Durham

Match: LVCC 1

Venue: The Riverside

Day 4

Middlesex resisted strongly until lunchtime at The Riverside before losing their last three wickets in four and a half overs immediately after lunch, thereby losing to Durham by 135 runs.

Overnight rain had threatened to delay the start, but play resumed on time. Nick Compton hit three boundaries in the opening two overs of the day, and Jamie Dalrymple also hit three more boundaries which brought up his fifty off 64 balls (9 fours). Their partnership for the fifth wicket had reached 85 when Compton got an edge to an Ottis Gibson delivery and was caught at the wicket for 33.

Ben Scott captured the mood, striking four boundaries before he lost Dalrymple for 71, caught at the wicket chasing a wide delivery off Benkenstein. Scott advanced to 49 with some fine cover driving before he played on to a delivery from Thorp and was bowled (off 62 balls, 9 fours).

Johann Louw and Chris Silverwood saw Middlesex to 220-7 at lunch after 55 overs. After lunch Louw was first to go, trapped LBW by Onions for 25, Melvyn Betts was bowled by Gibson for seven and Chris Silverwood holed out to mid-off to secure the win for Durham.

A third defeat in a row leaves Middlesex bottom of the Liverpool Victoria County Championship
