Middlesex Seconds lose out in a run feast

Middlesex seconds lost out in their first Second Eleven Trophy - Zone B, 50 Over 1 Day Match against Nottinghamshire at Worksop College on Monday June 27th by 47 runs in a match that produced 551 runs.

On winning the toss and batting first Nottingham had a good start as Darren Bicknell and Anurag Singh put on 167 for the first wicket in 28 overs when Singh was out for 76. Bicknell went on to score a Trophy best of 138 when he was out with the score on 265 – 3 at the end of the 45th over. Middlesex then managed to restrict Nottinghamshire to 299 –6 in their 50 overs mainly due to the bowling of Ben Hutton who took 3 –51.

Middlesex were soon in trouble at 87 – 2 at the end of the 14th over with Ben Hutton gone for 38. When Andrew Parkin-Coates took two wickets in an over to dismiss Nick Compton for 54 and David Nash for 21 leaving the score on 154 – 4 in the 26th over. Parkin-Coates having figures of 3-52 from his 10 overs. Middlesex then lost wickets regularly and Nottinghamshire had reduced them to 207-7 when Chris Peploe gave an easy catch to Jason Gallian at short midwicket of Will Smith first ball in the 38th over. Will Smith then moped up the tail as he took 4-16 in 2.2 overs as Middlesex were all out for 252 in 42nd over this was despite some lusty blows by Chris Wright off Darren Bicknell’s bowling as he was last out for 41 stumped by former Middlesex keeper David Alleyne off Smith. Thus Nottinghamshire recorded their second victory in the competition.
