Middlesex Seconds lose again the Trophy

No play was possible until 2.30pm in Middlesex Seconds Second Eleven Trophy with Minor Counties at Ealing on Tuesday June 30th and the match was reduced to 33 overs a side.

Middlesex won the toss and asked Minor Counties to bat, they raced to 121-3 in the 25th over when Simon Kellett was out for 59. Paul Weekes then slowed them down with 3-30 from his 6 overs with the score on 165-5 off 29 overs. When Weekes had finished his spell Peter Trego launched an assault on Paul Hutchison before he bowled by Hutchison for 91 off 41 balls including 6 sixes and 8 fours off the penultimate ball of the innings. This allowed Minor Counties to finish on 219-6 from their 33 overs.

When Middlesex batted they where soon in trouble at 7-2 with both Paul Weekes and Johnny Nambiar gone. Despite 37 from Jamie Dalrymple they collapsed to 77-6 in the 16th over. Tom Harvey with 3-13 from 3.2 overs then reduced them to 110 all out in 27th over with only Andrew Poynter with 30 showing any resistance. Thus Middlesex recorded their second defeat in the competition this time by 109 runs, the first time they had lost to Minor Counties for a number of years.
