Rain halts Middlesex

Rain caused the abandonment of the floodlit Twenty20 Cup at Hove with Middlesex having reached 56-1 after 7 overs. The match had been reduced to 18 overs a side after the start was delayed by 15 minutes.

Owais Shah and Ed Smith put on 22 runs in three overs before Smith was caught behind off the bowling of James Kirtley for 17 (off 12 balls, 3 fours).

Shah struck Naved for three boundaries in the fifth over but only three singles were scored off Mushtaq Ahmedís first over. Shah struck Davis for a six but rain forced the players off the field after 6.3 overs.

Play resumed after a delay of 50 minutes, with the match being reduced to 12 overs per side. Only three further balls were bowled before heavy rain caused the match to be abandoned.

Owais Shah was 30 not out (off 20 balls, 1 six and 3 fours) taking his Twenty20 Cup aggregate to 354 runs at an average of 70.80, and Jamie Dalrymple 6 not out.
