Rain delayed the start of the Southgate Cricket Festival, play not beginning until 2.45pm, resulting in the loss of 49 overs play.
Glamorgan captain, Robert Croft called correctly and had no hesitation in opting to bat first at The Walker Ground.
The left handed opening pair of Matthew Elliott and Dan Cherry safely negotiated the opening overs from Richardson and Pathan with Richardson only conceding 5 runs off his six overs. Betts replaced Richardson at the Waterfall Road end and in his second over had Elliott missed at second slip.
Elliott reached his fifty off 76 balls shortly before tea and the Glamorgan opening pair went into tea at 81-0 after 24 overs.
The total reached 98 at which point Elliott struck a ball to deep mid-wicket for a single, but trying for a second run, was sent back by Cherry and was run out by a direct hit on the stumps by Ed Joyce. Elliott made 59 off 97 balls (8 fours).
David Hemp, another Glamorgan left hander, was soon into his stride with some powerful drives and overtook Cherry to reach his fifty off 47 balls (10 fours). Cherry reached a well made fifty off 141 balls shortly afterwards and this pair took the visitors to a commanding 248-1 at the close of play after 55 overs.
Hemp was 89 not out (off only 73 balls with 1 huge six and 16 fours) and Cherry was 76 not out (167 balls – 14 fours).
It was a disappointing last session in the field for Middlesex, conceding 167 runs off 31 overs.
